Sound of Confusion WMUA Finale 01/19/09

The final Sound of Confusion at WMUA studios goes out with it's head held high in an all-out airwave audio assault. People from the past check in to offer their congratulations and good riddances, most notable of all being Hollywood terror Jonathan Lipnicki and the dreaded return of the Providence, Rhode Island duo of Matt and Mike Darshner, better known as the River City MIDI Committee. If your ears weren't bleeding through their [literally] screaming covers of "Closing Time," "Disarm," "Jumper," or "Good Riddance," then their rip-roaring hip-hop remake of No Doubt's "Don't Speak" will come as a welcomed treat for the ears. Comedian Kenny Starr checks in from Obama's inauguration and Redman appears to have wound up in a sticky situation in Thailand. Links to download all these calls as well as the final show in its entirety follow.

"So what would happen was like Hard Nutz would play a song and then they'd have to serve ice cream to all the people who were there."

Sound of Confusion's Final Show Part 1 and Part 2

As an added bonus, an associate producer from Late Night with Conan O'Brien called in to the WMUA program "Sweet Baby Lou and the Reverends of Funk" the following day to present the show and station with lawsuits.

"If [Barack Obama] can get the economic green machine going, then I'm all for it."

Sound of Confusion with Dr. Chocobo, Worthologist Live In-Studio 01/12/09

This week's special in-studio guest was Dr. Chocobo, Worthologist. Dr. Chocobo runs an advice column online, which apparently gives advice to those in need assuming they're big video game freaks. Attempting to upstage Dr. Chocobo's in-studio session was call-in Kenny Starr, supposed Bill Clinton joke expert. Have you determined what your personal hell is? If you haven't, consider a comedian that only tells dated 1997-98 Bill Clinton sex scandal-era jokes.

"I was about to make my big break a few years ago, but I got upstaged at a Friar's Club Roast by Cloris Leachman. You know, she told some very salacious jokes about Brian Dennehy's prostate condition which just really, you know, put the damper on what I was about to do which was, you know, 20 minutes of Clinton."

"Has your boss asked you to do something that goes against your core ethos such as burning a village of innocents?"

Sound of Confusion's Famous Zaireeka Radio Experiment 01/05/09

The first Sound of Confusion of the year was the can't miss radio show of 2009. With four CD trays at my disposal, I did the unthinkable: play the Flaming Lips four-Disc masterpiece Zaireeka over the radio. Hearing a mixdown on headphones is great, but physically hearing all four discs simultaneously playing through a set of headphones is mind-melting. On top of that, my friend Steve Binson called up to the show after his girlfriend broke up with him. The conversation is below and lets just say he had the breakup coming.

*Note*: for whatever reason the show was not recorded properly so there are unexplained chops and breaks in the recording that will sound off.

Sound of Confusion Special New Year Notice!

Make sure to turn on your mp3 stream and radio dials to 91.1 FM WMUA this Monday from 8-10 PM because something special is happening. I've threatened to do this before and it's finally happening. That's right, I'm taking over the four CD players in the studio and playing The Flaming Lips '97 4-disc opus Zaireeka in its entirety. In fact, I recommend streaming live from the WMUA website and listen live on the radio to hear the album twice, albeit one having a 7 second delay. Or make your own Parking Lot Experiment with it.
